- Examples:
- A Player unintentionally starts a multiball due to an errant bounce or missed shot before qualifying a mode
- A Player intentionally decides to start a multiball without a mode, because they fear they will drain the ball while trying to qualify the mode

Quoting Krystle Gemnich:
“Today I was playing pinball w/an enthusiastic newbie. When he asked why I was frustrated that I had accidentally started a multi-ball (w/o a mode started), I likened it to vanilla ice cream. If the mode was included; it would be like a hot fudge sundae; vanilla ice cream is still good…it could just be so much better. This is now one of my new favorite teaching moments/analogies.”
