New Pinball Dictionary: Gunching

Gunching

The use of body language while playing a pinball machine. Note that gunching doesn’t actually influence that path of the ball. It’s nudging that accomplishes that.

Gunching is the set of body actions that a player does while nudging. For example:

  • Leaning to one side
  • Balancing on one foot
  • Dropping to one knee
  • Taking both hands off the flippers and doing a little dance
  • Praying to the pinball gods

Gunching can be related to the actions a person does while playing a driving game. A player might lean sharply to one side, while taking a tight turn, even though it has no effect on the outcome.
