Some players slammed the sides of the machine when they lost a game. Others shook hands with their competitors as they cycled through their series of games. Winners would keep going, while the losers dropped out.

“Once you know the basics of flipper skills and how to catch the ball, the most important thing is concentration,” said Kuntz, 30. “I’m having fun; that’s the most important part.”
